Green Tea and Weight Loss

Green tea’s health benefits have been known for years and now people looking to lose weight are discovering that green tea is also a fat burner that can actually help them lose weight. Recent research has provided proof of what many weight watchers already know about green tea’s fat burning properties.

In addition to having anticancer, anti-oxidant and cognitive enhancement benefits, study by The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition has shown that green tea can also boost
your body’s metabolism and promotes fat oxidation. People drinking green tea on a regular basis burn fat that is stored in the body at a higher rate than people that did not drink green tea. This means that green tea increases your metabolism to burn more calories without you having to limit your calorie intake each day and still not gain weight.

Fat burner

Green tea acts as a fat burner by blocking fat cells from growing and multiplying. It also inhibits the enzymes involved in the fat storage process, and promotes the enzymes involved in the fat oxidation process.

Green tea is rich in catechin polyphenols, especially epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). EGCG is a very powerful anti-oxidant that works with other chemicals to intensify levels of fat oxidation and thermogenesis, where heat is generated in the body by burning stored fat. In addition to the fat burning effect, ounces for ounces, green tea contains less caffeine than coffee. If you drink six to eight ounces of green tea you would get approximately 30 to 60 mg of caffeine compared to the over 100 mg of caffeine in just eight ounces of coffee. Although coffee can supply all the caffeine alone that can boost your metabolism, coffee has negative side effects. Bear in mind that researchers found that the combined ingredients in green tea are much more effective in promoting metabolism and weight loss than just caffeine by itself.

People who do not like to drink green tea can get all the benefits by taking green tea extract capsules each day. You may have to drink as many as five to ten cups of green tea a day in order to receive all the green tea benefits. Research seems to indicate that the more green tea you drink the more weight you will loss – but only up to a certain amount.

Green Tea and Weight Loss

So far scientists have not found evidence that drinking a lot more green tea will help you lose a lot more weight. However, more and more evidence points to the importance of the amount of time that you drink green tea. It seems the longer you drink green tea, the fatter it will burn.

Weight loss is one of the wonderful benefits of drinking green tea but all the other health benefits make drinking green tea a wise decision. People should replace the coffee they drink with green tea and they could potentially lose up to ten pounds in six weeks.

You won’t lose weight overnight by drinking green tea. How quickly you lose weight depends on factors such as your diet and lifestyle. No one can guarantee how many pounds you can shed in a week, but the weight you lose will be a more permanent weight loss if you make drinking green tea or taking green tea extract capsules a regular habit. In other words, develop the good habit of drinking high quality green tea, and you will stand a much better chance of staying healthy and slim in the years to come.

The beauty of green tea is that, unlike other herbs and supplements, you can drink 3 to 6 cups daily for the rest of your life without having any side effects. Together with its other powerful health benefits, green tea is an ideal weight maintenance drink.

So by all means drink more green tea for its health and fat burning effect, but have a more realistic expectation of what it will do for you in term of weight loss!
